What is an Apprenticeship in Information Communication Technology?

This Apprenticeship is aimed at people either working or wishing to work in information technology, including computer technicians, systems support officers, data systems operators and any role involving a substantial element of IT.

This Apprenticeship is aimed at people with an interest in Information Technology.

Apprenticeships in information technology apply to the IT professional and the IT end user. Whether an individual is in an IT department, responsible for business systems and infrastructure or any other team who use ICT within their job role, they will gain valuable skills and knowledge from an apprenticeship. Job roles include:

  • IT Administrator
  • Data Administrator
  • Digital Assistant
  • Software and Web Development
  • IT Services
  • Technical Sales and Consulting

In this Apprenticeship, you will need to be focused, logical, motivated, organised and have an eagerness to learn. You will need to be prepared for a challenge, work effectively under pressure, both individually and as part of a team. Your experience will be shaped by the route you choose, whether that is a technical IT pathway or IT User Apprenticeship.  

Daily activities may include:

  • Operating a computer
  • Using email and the internet
  • Using spreadsheets to record and manipulate information
  • Using IT to prepare and present high quality documents
  • Entering and retrieving information on databases
  • Presenting information in a range of formats and styles
  • Installing and upgrading software
  • Providing technical advice and guidance
  • Testing IT systems and problem solving
  • Working with hardware and peripheral equipment

 

Individuals can gain the following qualifications:

  • Diploma for IT Users Levels 2
  • Diploma for IT Users Levels 3
  • Diploma in ICT Professional Competence Level 2
  • Diploma in ICT Professional Competence Level 3
  • Award in ICT Systems and Principles for IT Practitioners Level 3
  • Qualifications in English, Mathematics and ICT

 

  • Assist you in securing a great job with exciting prospects
  • Design an individual plan of learning 
  • Arrange on and off the job training 
  • Provide workshops to develop your skills
  • Appoint a designated Training Adviser to support you
  • Regularly review your progress with you and your employer
  • Provide advice and guidance to develop your career

Apprenticeships at Level 2 will take approximately 12-18 months to complete; with a further 12-18 months to achieve and Advanced Apprenticeship at Level 3.
