Godiva Wins A Business Award

An engineering-led scaffolding design, supply and hire company based in Coventry has been awarded a prestigious business award, in recognition of its dedication to training and upskilling its specialist workforce.

Godiva has been in the scaffolding industry for over 20 years. It prides itself on being able to drive a strong and successful team by continually offering a plan to help them build new skills and improve their performance and productivity.  The firm is also proud to be an official Coventry 2021 UK City of Culture supporter.

In association with Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber Training, by the end of 2018, the team is striving for more than 10% of their workforce to be Apprentices and graduate trainees so they can satisfy the demand for growing skills.

Natalie Lane, Account Manager at C&W Chamber Training said: “Godiva was originally referred to Chamber Training when they became a member of the Chamber.  Godiva has been on a steep growth incline over the last 18 months and they have realised they need to bring new skills into the business to continue to grow and thrive. They are currently exploring a range of training routes including the Apprenticeship programmes that will continue to build and develop local talent within the business as well as accessing the Skills 4 Growth funding available to local businesses in Coventry and Warwickshire.

“As part of their valued Chamber membership, they were keen to use our training and development offer enrolling one of their supervisors, Garreth Peters on to the full 10 Tools for Team Leaders programme. This is a series of courses designed to equip delegates with the essential skills to become an effective supervisor or team leader.  Further training has since been identified and the range of training they have enrolled their staff members on to is already benefitting the business.  We are delighted to see that many members of the senior management team are embarking on the ILM management development qualifications at a range of levels and this has been supported by the business as a whole.”

Commenting on Godiva’s successful partnership with Chamber Training, Karl Degroot, a member of the senior management team commented: “Godiva’s work ethics and procedures are of an extremely high standard and we’re looking to set the bar across the industry.  Working with Chamber Training is showing real business benefits, in terms of sourcing specific training to help bring new skill sets into the business as well as signposting us to industry specific qualifications and provision.  We look forward to a continued relationship in the future.

“As a result of the investment that Godiva’s management team are making into the business, Godiva was shortlisted for the Coventry Telegraph Business Awards on 25th September for two awards which included Leadership Team of the Year and they won the Sustainability Award."
