Apprentice of the Year 2019  at Coventry Evening Telegraph Business Awards 2019

Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce Training are delighted as one of their Accountancy Apprentices, Alexis Considine from The Wigley Group has been awarded Apprentice of the Year at the Coventry Telegraph Awards 2019.

Alexis has an outstanding attitude to her Accountancy Apprenticeship and learning, rapidly progressing from level 3, where she gained a distinction, before continuing her professional development, achieving her level 4 AAT accountancy qualification as part of her higher apprenticeship.

She has made a remarkable contribution to her employer – the Wigley Group -- applying the skills and knowledge learnt off the job to her work role, taking on greater responsibilities, including covering her manager’s role.   She demonstrates the professional ethics, principles and behaviours of her chosen profession and has a calm, conscientious and mature approach.

After winning her company’s Employee of the Month Award four times, she is well respected by her peers and managers and can be relied upon to fulfil her duties ahead of deadlines and with a high degree of accuracy. These include reporting directly to the board, and undertaking highly-responsible tasks such as VAT returns, banking transactions, payroll queries and in-depth financial analysis.

Alexis has thrown herself into all aspects of working life, playing a central role in the company’s charity-raising activities, being the youngest member of the team, which tackled the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge raising over £2,000 for Tiny Tim’s Children’s Centre.

She has been involved in another charity fundraising event, the Wigley Group annual golf day, which raised £17,000 to support ex-services personnel to re-train in non-service life.  As well as being a fantastic team player at the Wigley Group, Alexis has shown great leadership qualities by mentoring a Coventry University student who joined the business on an internship, providing advice and guidance, as well as training in the skills and knowledge she has acquired.  She is truly an invaluable asset to the business and has clear ambitions to gain professional accreditation in accountancy.

Commenting on the finalists and their achievements, Sally Lucas, Executive Director at Chamber Training said: “The Coventry Telegraph Awards is an excellent platform to celebrate our Apprentices’ exceptional progress and Alexis has certainly earned her place as Apprentice of the Year.  We are extremely proud of her."
