Calling Volunteers for Practice Interviews
Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce Training are a local Training Provider working with young people and apprentices within the Coventry and Warwickshire area. We are currently working on a project with Year 11 pupils at Ernesford Grange Community Academy in Coventry to support the students with employability skills in preparation for them taking their next steps into the world of work or higher education. We are seeking help from local employers for practice interviews.
On Friday 29th September 2023 we are going into the school to conduct one-to-one interviews with every Year 11 student to give them a taster of an interview situation. We have found in previous years that the students find the experience very rewarding; they benefit greatly from the one-to-one practice session and the advice and guidance adults can provide. This is often their first interview and they may be nervous and unsure of how to conduct themselves. This “practice” gives them much more confidence and understanding of the process and what employers will be looking for.
You do not need to be an HR professional or even conduct interviews as part of your role. This can often be the students first experience of speaking to an adult who is not a family member or teacher and this, in itself, is an important hurdle.
The students will have completed an application form. You will be given this on the day prior to meeting each student. A full list of questions is provided for you to use. You will then spend 20 – 25 minutes with a succession of students throughout the day and be asked to provide both verbal and written feedback for each.
- Dress code should be your normal work attire.
- The event will take place in a hall/library so there will be no need for a DBS check.
- Start time will be 9.00am and finish time around 3pm.
- Directions, parking and lunch arrangements will be provided prior to the event.
