A Wage Increase for Apprentices

Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce Training (CWCCT) is reminding businesses that the Apprenticeship Minimum Wage will increase from £4.30 to £4.81 per hour from 1st April 2022.  All employers must ensure that wages for current apprentices are updated to reflect this new legal requirement, where the minimum wage is being paid.

As a committed apprenticeship and training provider in Coventry and Warwickshire, CWCCT is at the forefront of designing and delivering high-quality, business-focussed apprenticeships. The specialist team works closely with employers to help identify their particular requirements in order to recommend an appropriate apprenticeship. Alternatively, the team can design a tailored plan of learning for existing staff to take their skills to the next level.

Commenting on the imminent rise in the apprenticeship wage, Sally Lucas, Executive Director said: “Apprenticeships are designed around the needs of employers and lead to nationally recognised qualifications which benefit the individual as well as the business.

“New and existing staff of all ages can undertake an apprenticeship to gain new skills and knowledge to make a real difference in the workplace.

“The increase of the apprenticeship minimum wage to £4.81 applies to apprentices under the age of 19 and apprentices aged 19+ who are in the first year of their apprenticeship.

“For example, an apprentice aged 21 in the first year of their apprenticeship is entitled to a minimum hourly rate of £4.81.  An apprentice aged 21 who has completed the first year of their apprenticeship is entitled to a minimum hourly rate of £9.18 for the balance of their apprenticeship after the first 12 months. Many businesses pay their apprentices more than the minimum wage to encourage and motivate them to make a real difference in the workplace.

“We look forward to hearing from employers who would like to find out how apprenticeships can fit the business.”
